The Department of Physiology, Lagos State University College of Medicine started at the inception of the College of Medicine in 1999. The Department has grown over the years and has trained and graduated PhD, MSc, and BSc students.
The department also contribute as service department in the Training of BNSc, Pharmacology and Medical/Dental students. The Department possesses academic scholars of international repute and state of the art equipment in the laboratories with a refurbished modern Animal House.
To be a leading research-based department providing comprehensive training and service in Physiology to medical, allied health services and graduate students.

An astute academic, Professor Olatunji-Bello rose through the ranks from Assistant Lecturer (1988-1991), Lecturer II between 1991 and 1996, Lecturer I from 1996 to 1999, Senior Lecturer (1999 – 2005), Associate Professor between 2005 and October 1, 2007, all in the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, Idiaraba. She assumed duty as the First Professor of Physiology in Lagos State University College of Medicine on the 2nd of October, 2007 Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has held several professional and administrative positions both at UNILAG and LASU. Until her election as the First female Deputy Vice Chancellor of LASU, she was the First substantive Head of the Department of Physiology, LASUCOM.
Other University managerial positions held by Professor Olatunji-Bello include: Acting Vice Chancellor (July –December 21, 2010, January 30 – October 31st, 2011).
